Another wonderful story. I have read all Corban Addison's books and loved them all. This book was a page turner, I lost sleep reading late into the night, as I did with "A walk Across The Sun" and "The Garden of Burning Sand".Pirates boarding your holiday boat ? your husband and son The only ones on board) being held for ransom ?..what could be more terrifying!
I ran the gauntlet of my emotions, I changed my mind about the main characters many times as they each told their story . A story (Fiction) based on actual pirate activity , was scary in parts, sad and emotional , heartwarming and very well researched. I also enjoyed reading the epilogue , so don't skip it!
I never like to give out the plot and ending , many others enjoy doing that, just settle back and read this compelling novel. If you haven't read any of Coban Addison's books before , you will after this one. All his books are "stand alone" and incredible reads.

"The Tears of Dark Water" is a book you will not soon forget. The characters become a part of you, and you find yourself becoming totally involved with their roles in the book's plot. How these characters deal with the challenges that are confronting them is what made me enjoy the book so much. In addition, I learned a great deal about life in a part of the world that is very foreign to most of us. I would also recommend the author's two previous books, "A Walk Across The Sun" and "The Garden of Burning Sand." All of the books deal with human rights issues that deserve our attention. I would love to see any of these books made into a film!
Absolutely enjoyed this book. Mr. Addison does a very good job of bringing real life issues into his works of fiction. Mr. Addison is a great champion of bringing understanding of current issues to those reading his masterpieces. The amount of research he puts into each book he writes is very evident and much appreciated.
I have been reading books ever since I can remember - somewhere around 58+ years. This is among the most outstanding I have ever read.
I lack the words to describe how awesome this read has been; satisfying on many, many levels.
The author tells a brutal, ugly story with compassion. It is at once terribly sad and beautiful by turns.; a truly remarkable feat.
Read it.
As I finished this book, only one word summarized my final thought ... Amazing. What was amazing? The character development, the descriptive beauty of places, the tensions, the Somali culture and history, the U.S. Military tactics during hijack negotiations, the legal efforts to get at the truth. I just didn't want the story to end, yet when it did, I was satisfied with the outcomes. Highly recommended!
The two different scenarios feel like two totally separate books. I kept pushing myself to keep going, but when I quit at 10% it was already drudgery. I did not get the impression that the author was personally aquatinted with Muslims, pirates, boats or marriage. Yes, I know I'm being harsh. To buy this book you need a much better reason than it being on sale. And you need to get both books. Maybe they help explain each other. Actually the only interesting part was the father-son relationship on the sail boat. They were both pushing themselves and each other to overcome limitations in their characters.
Once again Corban writes an enthralling story. Finished reading in three days.
I always enjoy how you learn of a new region of the world through Corban's stories. He keeps you gripped to the story and you connect with the characters. I cried several times while reading and held my hand over my mouth at some parts as well.
As always, I look forward to Corban's next Novel.
I am a huge Corban Addison fan--from his first book, A Walk Across the Sun to this, his latest, The Tears of Dark Water. I love the way he weaves this story from the view points of different characters and cultures and somehow tells a tale that is respectful of each culture. I found it to be a very honest book in that respect. . The story is more than an adventure on the high seas--it is that, of course,--but it is also about the tragedy of how misunderstanding and distrust can bring a tense situation to its inevitable end. Well written, well paced, an enjoyable read through and through.I certainly look forward to more from this very talented author.
